Accounting Manager/Assistant Controller

Location: Manchester, NH

Schedule: Full-Time | Monday-Friday | On-site

Reports to: Controller / Director of Finance

Salary Range: $110,000 - $135,000 annually, based on experience and qualifications

Position Overview

We are seeking an experienced Accounting Manager / Assistant Controller to support and oversee day-to-day accounting operations at our Manchester, NH location. This role is ideal for a hands-on accounting leader who enjoys owning the close process, strengthening controls, and partnering closely with senior leadership.

The Accounting Manager / Assistant Controller will play a critical role in ensuring accurate financial reporting, maintaining compliance with GAAP, and supporting continuous improvement across accounting processes. This position is a key succession role beneath the Controller.

Key Responsibilities

  • Manage and oversee month-end, quarter-end, and year-end close processes
  • Review and approve journal entries, reconciliations, and account analyses
  • Maintain and enforce GAAP-compliant accounting policies and procedures
  • Supervise and mentor accounting staff; provide ongoing training and development
  • Ensure balance sheet integrity and timely resolution of reconciling items
  • Support annual audits and coordinate with external auditors
  • Assist with internal controls, SOX (if applicable), and documentation
  • Partner with finance and operations leadership on reporting and analysis
  • Lead process improvement initiatives and system enhancements
  • Serve as backup to the Controller as needed

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting or Finance (required)
  • 7+ years of progressive accounting experience
  • 2+ years in a supervisory or lead accounting role
  • Strong understanding of GAAP and financial reporting
  • Experience managing month-end close in a mid-sized organization
  • ERP system experience (NetSuite, Oracle, SAP, Dynamics, or similar)
  • Advanced Excel skills (pivot tables, lookups, analytics)
  • CPA or CPA-track strongly preferred
  • Excellent communication, leadership, and organizational skills
  • Ability to manage priorities and deadlines in a fast-paced environment
